Self care during pregnancy

1) Sleep and rest

a) Take at least 8-10 hours of sleep.

b) Avoid strenuous activity especially in the 1st trimester i.e first 4 weeks of pregnancy.

c) Maintain side lying position at late pregnancy period.

2)Bowel habits

a)Drink plenty of fluids and water to prevent constipation.

b)Add vegetables and salads as a source of fibre to your diet.

3) Clothing

a) The clothes should be loose and comfortable especially in the 2nd and 3rd trimester pregnancy.

b) Avoid wearing high heels and wear comfortable shoes.

4)Care of breast

a) Breast hygiene to be maintained

5) Travel

a) Avoid travelling as much as possible to prevent jerky movements especially in the first trimester pregnancy.

6) Medication

a) Avoid medications in pregnancy unless prescribed by doctor and seek medical advice before consuming medication.

7) Lifestyle

Avoid smoking and alcohol during pregnancy as it may harm fetus and may cause complications in pregnancy.

8) Immunization

a) For women who is unimmunized 2 doses of tetanus toxoid 0.5ml intramuscular with 6 weeks of interval, first dose between 16-24 weeks is essential.
